Jim and I were in Madeira in October last year, and took a long day trip with Jeff (Hit the Road Madeira) , a guy who obviously loves his home, and will take you anywhere his old Land Rover will go. It was a really fun day and we loved the island. See a review on Jeff here : Hit The Road Madeira
So finding ourselves in Madeira again, but with time constraints this time, we decided to go out on the pirate boat.

Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands, an island of Spain
There are seven Canary Islands and Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, is one of the three we visited on this trip.
As a result of the Spanish and Portuguese Kings dividing the world for colonization purposes in the 16th century, the seven Canary Islands belonged to Spain.
All of the Canary Islands were formed by volcanic activity. Tenerife also has the highest mountains in all of Spain and is a popular holiday destination for sun seekers flocking to it’s southern coast.
Tenerife’s landscape is dominated by the volcanic Mount Teide .
Tenerife’s culture has been shaped by Spanish colonization, immigration and it’s location at the crossroads of Transatlantic exploration and trade.
Tenerife is the site of the world’s largest airplane tragedy. A collision between two 747’s, one taxiing and one landing, in the 1970’s.

Gustavo with ODITEN “One Day In Tenerife” is a wonderful guide and historian. What a wonderful day we had in Tenerife.
Gustavo took us to the Teide National Park North end, and volcanic route.
