Happenings at sea……

October 15 about 5AM the Captain announced that the ship was stopped due to refugees being spotted in a disabled boat. There were about 45 children, women and men and the ship’s staff had taken food, water and blankets and would keep them safe until the Coast Guard arrived. A pilot boat was also on it’s way.

It was about 2 hours before the ships staff returned  and we were on our way again. We were nearest to Greece so that is where they were taken..

Vision Of The Seas also had rescued another group in a disabled boat on August 27, 2015.

On a lighter note, we had a bird visit our room.

We were headed to lunch and outside our cabin (which is inside the ship) a few feet away was a bird. We turned and went the other way to keep from startling the bird. When we came back from lunch there were some maintenance staff trying to close off fire doors and reduce it’s space so someone could open a cabin and a balcony door.

I kept our door open and Jim opened the balcony door and went out to try to help reduce birdie’s choices, so birdie flew in our room, landed on Jim’s jacket then flew out the balcony door.

Oh, and then we had the fly couple who decided to visit when our cabin door was open. Who would have thought of flies out to sea.

The evening before the final day the ship diverted course for a medical emergency. The ship’s doctor went with the patient and evacuation staff. Once the patient was on land the doctor was returned back to the ship and we resumed our course. 

October 22, 2015     Rome- in the city

I had hired a guide to show us around Rome for the day. The tour operator was Rome In Limo.

 Rome is a beautiful city, traffic congestion is crazy.

What our guide/driver told us is every time they start a road project they run into ruins and it has to stop immediately.
